Statement

The work I have submitted is a variety of my favourite photographs, all the photo’s I have submitted where taken with a manual SLR on 35mm film. Photography is my passion and a hobby which I have been pursuing for around 4 years. I work with film so I can truly grasp the origins and true skill of photography, I believe there is a lot more talent and heart behind film photography, however I definitely want to improve my digital art and work with digital video. I try to carry a camera wherever I am as to capture anything I find aesthetically interesting. I have become interested in minimalistic and simple photography as I have been inspired by artists such as Utah Barth and Richard Misrach. However I do find myself drawn to portraiture especially in muted tones.  I have been told my photographs have an intimate and delicate atmosphere even during a project on abandoned houses. I do like to portray fragile things and have a real passion for photographing hands and feet. The sense of touch comes across a lot in my work whether it is textures or short focus finishes on fingertips. I like working in external environments "on set" rather than studio as i prefer natural lighting and natural interaction with a space. I want to study photography so I can become an exhibiting artist, or perhaps go into magazine work. I already have a blog and am trying to get my work viewed by more people as my favourite artists Ismay Ozga and Alexis mire found their way through blogging. I have a very simple taste and want to improve my technical skills and expand my horizons on this course. I love the photography books I saw on the course and as I am interested in literature and poetry I think this would be a perfect project for me.
